There are two downsides to removing the SGR legislation. The first is that it will be viewed as a “cost,” which it is only by virture of not imposing a “saving.” The second is that there will be some replacement formula, which is meant to be a solution, but we must remember that the SGR itself was a promising formula that proved to be flawed. But for now, the first task is to remove the otherwise certain and severe reduction of Medicare payment for physician services.
